Merry Christmas

December 25, 2006 | 12:00 am

Ho ho ho… Merry Christmas everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas wherever in the world you were!

Ours was pretty hectic to say the least. Christmas Eve & Breakfast with the mother in law in Orewa (about 40 min north of Auckland); Lunch with the Abbott’s in Bucklands Beach (back in Auckland); and an early evening BBQ with friends and their kids back at our place… All of this while still recovering from a kick ass work Christmas party on the Friday and a very late night chatting with the neighbors afterwards… whew!

But it was all just lovely . Beth loved it and for the first time really looked forward to Santa coming. Although it was heartbreaking to see her face when she realised that Rudolf wasnt waiting outside to see her in the morning, she was bitterly dissapointed in that, but he did eat the carrot she left for him and left her lots of pressies so thats all cool.

The kids did really well out of Santa, and the family this year. They’re loving all their new toys and stuff to play with, which is also nice for us as they sort of entertain themselves quite a bit.

New Years very soon and lots of socializing to do. Hope you all have a great night and I’ll post as soon as I get over my anticipated hangover!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Navman R300 Sports Tool Review

December 11, 2006 | 1:59 pm

So what I really want for Christmas now is the Garmin Forerunner 305 (or 205, forget the old 301/201). I’ve had my little Navman sports tool for a few weeks now and really like it, I thought I should post a proper review of it. It’s not as cool as the Garmin product, but hey its less than half the price and designed in lil’ ole NZ.

For the newbies to the GPS Sports Tool worlds this is a device that uses GPS satellites to calculate your position as you "do your thing" and then tell you information, such as how far you’ve gone and how long it took you.

Sure you can do this with a watch and a map, but this is a bit of a hassle unless you run the same route every time. You cant get live updates while your running. Plus doing it with a gadget is always going to be more fun (that could be just a me thing though).

Now the review proper…

Where is the god damn snow?!

December 1, 2006 | 8:18 am

snowman_ani.gifIts the first of December today and I am still waiting for it to snow… Not a sign of it anywhere! The stores have had to resort to using fake snow and turning the air conditioning down so that poor old Santa doesn’t go the way of the wicked witch of the west and melt away. Perhaps I’m mistaken, perhaps it doesn’t snow in New Zealand in the middle of god damn summer! But I can’t be wrong! I mean everywhere you look are snowmen, reindeer and heavily overweight guys in thermal underwear and red lounge suits… To quote my eloquent sister:

Whats worse is that the majority still insist on using snowmen, snow covered plastic fur trees, Polarbears??, giant fake snowflakes, cotton wool as snow and Santa dressed up to the nines in fur! ITS SUMMER AND WE LIVE ON A PASIFIC ISLAND!!! So as you can tell it shits me a bit. Why cant we use the Pohutakawa as our tree? and sand as our snow? Santa can keep the beard, but maybe dust off the stubbies or something?

Hear hear I say! Odds on when Santa comes whistling through the south pacific he will be stripping of the thermals and giving his lilly whites a chance to get a little bit of sun before they go back into hibernation for the next 12 months.
